Research Specialties
Applications of GIS, statistical modeling, image enhancement, and multimedia to rock art studies, site management, and public education.

Current project documenting rock art sites within Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Completed mapping 180 pictograph sites at Hueco Tanks State Historical Park for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, included database with enhanced images linked to locations. Developed enhancement techniques that improve visibility of otherwise faint images. Completed interactive multimedia CD for the Deer Valley Rock Art Center, Phoenix, Arizona.

Study and management of graffiti / vandalism problems at rock art sites.

Volunteer Projects
CD of the Archaeological Conservancy's Rocky Hill Site with aerial photos, stereo images, and scanned slide images linked to GPS locations.

GIS data linked to topographic and orthophoto base maps of Ring Mountain Preserve, Volunteer work done for the Bay Area Rock Art Research Association and then donated to the site managers: Marin OpenSpace District.

Instrumental in adding an explicit provision in the California Resources Code relating to protecting rock art resources.

Selected Publications

Over twenty scientific publications dealing with diverse aspects of rock art, site documentation, conservation, and management. Two multimedia CDs produced. One contains Quick Time Virtual Reality rotatable images of the planets. Another contains a 360-degree panorama of a public rock art site with close up images linked to hot spots.
